Founders who hire fractional CFO services

Founders preparing for a Series A or Series B.

You have a fundraise on the horizon, and you need someone to build the model, structure the data room, prepare the metrics narrative, and partner with you through investor diligence. You're not hiring a CFO yet — you need fractional support for 6-12 months.

Founders post-funding without a CFO.

You closed a round, you have a board, and the board expects monthly reporting and quarterly strategic updates. You don't have a CFO yet but the work needs doing now. We bridge until you're ready to hire.

Owner-operators above $5M revenue.

You're profitable, growing, not VC-backed, and not planning to be. But the business has gotten complex enough that you need real cash management, strategic finance, and unit economics analysis. A full-time CFO would be overkill; a part-time one is exactly right.

Founders running multi-entity.

You're operating across two or three countries, your finance function has gotten complex, and you need someone who can see the whole picture — not just one entity at a time. We handle the consolidated view: cash by entity and consolidated, revenue by region, margin by product line.

What fractional CFO engagements cover

Cash and runway

  • Rolling 13-week direct cash forecast
  • KPI dashboard design and ongoing maintenance
  • Monthly runway analysis with sensitivity scenarios
  • Cash burn analysis and budget vs. actual

Board and investor reporting

  • Monthly board pack — financials, KPIs, narrative commentary
  • Board meeting prep — talking points, anticipated questions, slide review
  • Quarterly investor update letters (drafted with founder, signed by founder)

Strategic finance

  • Pricing and unit economics analysis
  • Gross margin and contribution margin breakdowns
  • Customer cohort analysis (LTV, CAC, payback)
  • Go-to-market spend efficiency analysis

Fundraise preparation

  • Three-statement financial model (revenue build-up to cash flow)
  • Data room build-out and investor diligence response
  • Pipeline and metrics narrative for pitch deck
  • Term sheet review (financial provisions; we are not lawyers)

What we don't take on as fractional CFO

  • Day-to-day people management or HR leadership
  • Banking relationships and treasury investment decisions
  • Tax filing or international tax structuring (we partner with local tax counsel)
  • Audit (non-assurance firm)
  • M&A negotiation, term-sheet structuring, or definitive-document work (lawyers' scope)
  • Investment advisory or wealth management for founders personally

How we work together

Weekly

30-minute weekly call. Cash position update, near-term issues, what needs the founder's attention.

Monthly

Monthly strategic review. Monthly close walkthrough, KPI review, runway update, upcoming priorities. Board pack draft for review.

Quarterly

Quarterly business review. Performance vs. plan, strategic finance topics (pricing, unit economics, hiring plan), board prep if applicable, fundraise milestone tracking.

Engagement structure

Engagements typically include 1-2 weekly hours of synchronous time (calls, board prep) plus async work (model maintenance, board pack drafting, investor responses). For active fundraises, expect a temporary 25-50% scope increase during the 4-8 weeks of investor diligence.

We're typically a 6-18 month relationship — most clients hire a full-time CFO eventually, and we'd rather help them get to that point well than try to be permanent. We'll often help recruit and onboard your first full-time CFO.
