Where our technical depth comes from
IFRS 15 implementation for B2B SaaS
Subscription revenue, multi-element arrangements, performance obligation identification, transaction price allocation, deferred revenue waterfall — implemented and operated for a multi-entity Canadian SaaS. Not a textbook understanding; a production-line one.
Multi-entity consolidation.
Canada-US-UK three-entity consolidations with intercompany sales, cross-border cost allocations, and FX translation under ASC 830 / IAS 21. Built consolidations both manually in Excel and in NetSuite/Sage Intacct. We know where the bodies are buried.
Audit preparation at scale
Three full audit cycles run as the in-house finance team — Big Four auditors, multi-entity scope, hard quarter-end and year-end deadlines. We know what 'audit-ready' actually means and how to get there without a fire drill.
Multi-jurisdiction operations
For businesses operating across two or three jurisdictions — Canada-US-UAE, Canada-UAE-AU, GCC-UK-Canada — we handle the consolidation, FX management, intercompany pricing, and cross-border accounting that most generalist firms struggle with.
What controllership covers
Close ownership
We own the monthly close from start to finish — not just review the bookkeeper's output. Trial balance is reconciled, accruals are documented, intercompany matches, and the month-end package is signed off by a CPA Ontario member.
Technical accounting
When something complicated happens — a new revenue arrangement, an acquisition, a lease, a stock comp grant — we write the memo. Plain-language analysis with citations to IFRS ready for your auditor.
Audit liaison and prep
When your auditor shows up, we hand them a clean PBC list, supporting schedules, and walk-throughs. Our years of being on the prep side of an audit show — we know what auditors ask for, what they push back on, and how to make audit season painless.
Reporting and governance
Monthly reporting that boards actually read — not just trial balance dumps. KPIs that drive decisions. Cash, runway, and operational metrics in formats your management team and investors can engage with.
How controllership engagements work
Most controllership engagements are monthly fixed-fee arrangements that bundle close ownership, technical memos as needed, audit liaison, and monthly reporting into a single retainer.
We don't bill hourly within the retainer scope — but if a project sits clearly outside scope (a one-time technical memo, a system implementation, an acquisition close), we'll quote it separately with a fixed fee.
Engagement structure is month-to-month with a 30-day notice period. We don't lock founders into annual commitments.

Frequently asked questions
How is this different from bookkeeping?
Bookkeeping is transactional — entering, categorizing, reconciling. Controllership is ownership — owning the close, owning the technical decisions, owning the audit relationship, owning the reporting. A bookkeeper executes a chart of accounts; a controller designs it.
Do I still need a bookkeeper if I hire you for controllership?
Most clients bundle bookkeeping and controllership into one engagement — we handle both. If you have an existing bookkeeper you want to keep, we can layer controllership on top of their work.
Can you replace our outgoing controller?
Yes — for many clients this is the entry point. We can step into the role within 2-3 weeks and bridge until you've hired a replacement, or operate as your permanent controller on retainer.
Will you sign our financial statements?
For internal management reporting and board packs — yes, we sign off. For statutory financial statements that require audit, review, or compilation engagements — no, that's a separate licensed practice we don't operate. We prepare the books; your audit firm signs the statutory financials.
